Followap Completes OMA IMPS 1.3 Interoperability Testing
Promoting increased adoption and interoperability of mobile IM

London, United Kingdom - 8 August 2006

Followap, the leading provider of presence and instant messaging solutions, today announced it has successfully demonstrated interoperability of its IMSC (IM Service Centre) at the OMA’s Test Fest in Belfast, UK.

OMA IMPS 1.3 tests of the latest IMPS specifications are vital preparation for the mobile industry involved in global operator-branded IM services (also known as SMS+ or Personal IM).  Its results establish interoperability between Followap’s IMSC and leading global mobile phone manufacturers’ handsets.  By ensuring IM-ready mobile phones work seamlessly with Followap’s technology, operators can quickly launch IM services and exploit a large install base of IM handsets available now in the market.  Interconnectivity is an important factor for speeding up the adoption of global IM, across networks, servers and mobile phones.

Tommy Volsen, VP Marketing and Business Development at Followap said, “We are working with operators and handset manufacturers to build the next generation of interactive mobile services.  Followap’s products meet the latest industry standards, providing OMA compliant solutions that are powering 25 operator IM services worldwide, with a combined user base of over 200 million.  The OMA Test Fest results are evidence of our products capability in supporting the OMA specifications, meeting the needs of the mobile market.”

OMA has been developing and promoting Wireless-Village (WV) protocol since 2001 so that real time communications such as IM can be adopted by all users across networks and devices.  As with SMS and voice calls, the IM users’ phone number is also their IM identity (MSISDN), ensuring fast service adoption and simple and intuitive usage.

Fred Harrison, Chair of the Board’s IOP committee at the Open Mobile Alliance adds, “The OMA Test Fest plays a crucial role in testing interoperability, shaping engineering efforts of OMA member companies such as Followap for the successful roll-out of new mobile services.  Businesses participating in OMA Test Fests ensure that their customers receive higher quality products in shorter time to market cycles.”

Followap supports industry growth by operating an IOT (Interoperability Testing) program that enables leading device manufacturers to develop IM enabled handsets over Followap’s IMSC.  By continuously improving handset interoperability, Followap has designed the environment needed for operators to select IM-ready handsets helping operators to quickly launch new IM services.
